a fine romance

vintage dress, bag from h&m, and THE MURDER OF ROGER ACKROYD BY AGATHA CHRISTIE WHICH IS THE BEST BOOK EVER GO READ IT

YOU GUYS. hello. look at this incredible dress I got from rewind on tuesday!! it is absolutely perfect in every way. It's from the 50s and is made from really cool vintage indonesian fabric!! my apologies for the ugly blurry dark photos. photo booth is no longer cutting it and cannot capture the awesomeness that is this fabric.

IN OTHER NEWS, as you can see from these pictures, my bed has been deconstructed and is now leaning against the wall!!! I've been sleeping on just my mattress. Also, we've taken out the hideous carpet that used to be in here so now I have nice, smooth old wood floors that are way more cool than any carpet. I also have a cool rug now. This is exactly the kind of change I was looking for. It's kind of like late-summer cleaning and I got rid of a bunch of junk this week too, so I feel a lot more organized and clean and fresh and ready for LYFE and STUFF LIEK THAT

basically this past week has been pretty fun. I spent like 90% of it with my mom because my brother and dad are out of town. mom is like my best friend in the universe so we had a lot of fun this week. we made a peach cobbler the other day which was fabulous. I've also been trying to write my personal essay for the common application for COLLEGE (ugh) since I can start applying to places now. writing about myself is not my forte and it's just really hard and I cry everyday about it. I'd rather write about aliens and music and outer space and cats. but whatever.

Fall is quickly approaching, I can feel it despite the 90 degree weather. I've been in kind of a cozy mood lately because I've literally only been listening to Billie Holiday for the past 3 days. her voice is like a caramel sundae. I MEAN LITERALLY JUST LISTEN TO HER, SHE IS PERFECT:

everything she sings is warm and cozy and makes me want to lay in bed and drink apple cider and read books and stuff.

anyways, I'm really scared because when I go back to school I have to take a class at the university with college kids and I'm freaking out because I have to find my way there all by myself and study and do all sorts of scary college things. I am literally terrified and I don't know what to DO.

so yeah!!!!! SEE U LATER. PEACE AND LOVE

food drive

HEY GUYS! I'm just going to do a quick post about the food drive that I did for a food shelf in my neighborhood. It was so fun and I got a LOT of food to help out some of the people who rely on food shelves for most of their nourishment. Basically what I did was create a really cute flier, explaining what the food shelf most needed and for people to put a paper bag full of any food or items they wanted to donate out on their front step on a certain day. Then I went around the neighborhood passing out fliers and on the day specified I went around and picked up the bags and took them to the food shelf! It was fairly easy, really fun and I got to help the community out a little. It was great.

The experience of community service and helping out those less fortunate is a really rewarding experience and it's great to give without expecting something in return. A lot of times, I forget about the struggles with money and food supply that are happening right in my neighborhood and I just feel so grateful about being able to not have to worry about that kind of thing.

So yeah, COMMUNITY SERVICE RULEZ

Here's a not-cute pic of me with some of da food I received from my neighbors for the food drive:

see u guys later!!!! xo

california pt. 2

It's my last day in southern California :((( I had honestly the best time here though. I got to see the ocean which is literally my favorite thing in the world. It's just so vast and huge and blue and it goes on forever and ever and oh my god I'm in love with the waves and the sun and the sky and the sand and everything. It's all perfect. Dad took us to Del Mar which is where he grew up, so that was cool. It's the cutest little town and he must have had the most perfect childhood ever because he could walk to the beach with his friends in like two minutes and stay there all day, every day of the summer.
I'm a little sunburnt but that's okay, it was totally worth laying in the sun for a few hours, pretending like I had nothing to worry about. Today I'm flying back to my home in Minneapolis which I miss but honestly I wish I could stay in California forever (or at least a few more weeks).
I hope you guys liked some of the pictures that I took on my trip!!!!! Everything in Cali is so picturesque. Now I'm headed home to face the COLD HARD REALITY THAT IS BACK-TO-SCHOOL.

I'm going to end this post with another fab song that kind of has to do with the ocean I guess. It's by one of my FAVORITE BANDS EVER whom I got to see live in concert in April which was literally LIFE CHANGING. This is Sink To The Bottom by Fountains of Wayne (I'm in love with them???)

california pt. 1

I am having THE MOST FUN in Los Angeles. These are a few pictures I took so far. I'm coming home on Saturday so I've still got a few days to go! Tomorrow we will be driving to San Diego which I'm pretty thrilled about. Southern California is so beautiful and I now know what Best Coast was talking about when they wrote The Only Place.
However, I did get quite sick on Monday and stayed in bed all day. But I'm better now so everything is gr8.
YOU GUYS I'M FREAKING OUT I DON'T WANT TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL. I ONLY HAVE LIKE 2 WEEKS OF SUMMER LEFT OH GOD I'M GOING TO CRY. WHOEVER SAID SUMMER WAS ENDLESS WAS REALLY NOT VERY SMART BECAUSE SUMMER IS LIKE LITERALLY THE SHORTEST SEASON OF ALL THE SEASONS. MORE LIKE ENDLESS WINTER. WINTER IS THE ONLY ENDLESS SEASON BECAUSE LITERALLY IT DRAGS ON FOR LIKE EVER OH MY GOD.

anyways, I will end this post with one of my favorite songs 4evr, Train In Vain by the Clash. It's good for driving around with the windows down.

punk alien

diy punk alien shirt, skirt from target

MY FRIEND PEACHES MADE ME THIS WONDERFUL PUNK ALIEN SHIRT and it's beautiful and I love it so much oh my god.
I've been having weird almost-the-end-of-summer feelings lately. this is my last summer that I'll legally be a kid. I'll be going to my last first day of school on August 26th. I'm going to be a SENIOR. In one year I'll be moving out of my house that I've lived in my whole life. GROWING UP IS SCARY I'M SAD BUT ALSO EXCITED BUT ALSO REALLY REALLY FREAKED OUT AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO SO ALL I DO IS DANCE AROUND MY ROOM TO DAVID BOWIE.

I don't know if that made any sense at all but I hope I communicated my feelings accurately. And if this school year doesn't end up like a John Hughes movie then I literally am going to cry.

ANYWAYS I'm so so so so so so so SO excited because tomorrow I'll be hopping on a plane to go to wonderful LOS ANGELES for a whole week!!!!! I'm legitimately bummed that I'm not going to be there in time for the Rookie Fest. Oh well, I'm going to have so much fun anyway because california in general is just really fabulous and my hope is that I get into a college there. I'm going to take so many pictures and put them up here!!!!!!!!!

I've been having so much fun just hanging out with my friends and eating ice cream sandwiches and drawing pictures and reading and listening to music and playing guitar. I've gotten into the habit of sitting out on my front steps and just breathing in the wonderful summer air. It's so great and school is just going to ruin everything. UGH.

so yeah. HAVE SOME SUMMERY INSPIRATION (FROM TUMBLR):

also I've really been digging Best Coast's more ~lo-fi~ stuff like this song from Make You Mine 7":

it's wonderful and i've been listening to it like all week in order to get ready for some CALIFORNIA VIBES

box of rain

have you ever listened to a song that perfectly encapsulates your feelings of life and death and the universe and it just makes you feel okay inside because you know that there's this song and you can listen to it forever and ever and it's like your soul is being read aloud to you in a beautiful melody?
ME TOO. for me it is Box of Rain by the Grateful Dead, which I've loved basically my whole life and it's just so happy and wonderful and great. listen to it when you're happy, or sad, or mad, or not feeling anything at all. it's just perfect.

see u guys l8er

i've lost you

whale dress: karma, sweater: UO, random socks, backpack: target, shoes: american apparel, flower power: tumblr

HEY YOU GUYS. I wore a sweater because it's windy outside and I love sweaters and I'm sick of short sleeves to be honest (not that I'm implying that I want fall to come, because for the love of all things good in life, please don't make me go back to school).

Sometimes I get really nostalgic and sad about growing up and how I'll never be the same as how I used to be. I'll miss not having to work, and not having to be so responsible about everything, and not having to make decisions all the time. At the same time, though, growing up has benefits as well:

  • I can know myself better and be the person who I want to be.
  • I won't have to go to school ever again after I graduate.
  • I'll be independent and live life how I want to live it.
  • I'll be able to learn what I want to learn, and grow as a person.
  • I'll be able to adopt as many kitties as I want.

(now I'm kind of excited about life)

Today I took a walk outside in the glorious 75 degree weather and took some weird pictures through binoculars. I like them because they kind of look like cool planets in outer space:

Also dig this song:

age of consent - new order
I'M IN LOVE
